Jean-Louis Trapet is pure and gentle. Inspired by the principles of biodynamic wine-making for nearly 20 years, this sensitive and talented winemaker propelled this domain to the top of the most elite of the Burgundy houses (and that’s being modest). His secret: an almost religious respect for and accompaniment of the vine, a precise method of working the soil and delicate fermentation, never forced. This humility and openness of approach are written in capricious vintages such as 2011 where the freshness, the soft purity of the fruit and the delicate tannins surprise and seduce. The whole of the production is remarkably consistent. The Marsannay offers excellent value for money for lovers of fine pinot noir. His Gevrey-Chambertins are poems on which to contemplate and meditate. What to say about the Grand Chambertin which will fulfil you after spending a few years in the cool shade of your cellar? The essential is present, clean but never devoid of substance. A Brilliant experience.
